Saral SMTP

Free OpenCart extension · v1.0.0

Make sure your store’s order emails and password resets actually arrive.

Sends every email your OpenCart store sends through a proper email service, such as Gmail, Microsoft 365, Amazon SES, Brevo or any SMTP server. It keeps a log of what was sent and what failed, retries failed emails and tells you when something goes wrong.

  • Free, for OpenCart 4.0.2.0 and newer
  • Works with 25+ email services
  • No core file changes

Why it matters

Why OpenCart emails go missing

Out of the box, OpenCart sends email with PHP’s mail() function or one SMTP server. Mail sent with mail() leaves your web server with no login and no proof that it really comes from your domain, so Gmail and Outlook often put it in spam or drop it without telling anyone.

You usually find out from an unhappy customer: an order confirmation never arrived, a password reset went to spam, or a contact form message was never seen. Saral SMTP sends the same emails through a real email account or service, keeps a log, and retries and alerts you when an email fails.

Features

What Saral SMTP does

25+ email services

Gmail, Microsoft 365, Zoho Mail, Amazon SES, SendGrid, Mailgun, Brevo, Postmark, Resend and more, or any SMTP server with presets for 30 mail hosts.

Sign in with Google, Microsoft or Zoho

Connect a Gmail, Microsoft 365 or Zoho Mail account with OAuth. No app password needed.

Several connections

Send order emails, contact form messages or password resets through different services, or route by From address, with a fallback when the main one fails.

Email log

Every email with its status, connection, the service’s reply and the part of OpenCart that sent it. Preview, resend or export to CSV.

Automatic retries

Failed emails are tried again after 15, 30 and 60 minutes, and a failed email no longer stops a checkout with an error page.

Failure alerts

Get told when an email fails, by email, Slack, Discord, Google Chat, Telegram or a webhook, plus an optional weekly summary.

Domain check

Checks the SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX records your email service needs, and shows the records to add.

Sending limits

Hourly and daily limits per connection, so you stay inside your email service’s plan.

How It Works

Set it up in four steps

01
Install

In your OpenCart admin, go to Extensions, then Installer, and upload saral_smtp.ocmod.zip. Then go to Extensions, choose the “Other” type, and install Saral SMTP.

02
Pick your service

Open Saral SMTP, add a connection and choose the service you use, such as Gmail, Amazon SES, Brevo or your host’s SMTP server.

03
Enter your details

Paste the API key or SMTP login, or sign in with Google, Microsoft or Zoho. Set the From name and address.

04
Switch it on and test

Turn on “Send all store email through Saral SMTP” and send a test email. If it fails, the error explains what to change.

Pro add-on

Saral SMTP Pro for OpenCart

A paid add-on is on the way. Everything in the free extension keeps working as it is, and Pro will add:

Delivery tracking

Amazon SES, SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark and Brevo report back whether each email was delivered, bounced or marked as spam, and the email log shows it.

Suppression list

Addresses that hard-bounce or complain are no longer emailed, which protects your sender reputation.

Open and click tracking

See which order and marketing emails were opened and which links were clicked. Password reset and test emails are never tracked.

Background sending

Checkout and registration don’t wait for the email service: emails go out a moment later, still with routing, fallback, logging and retries.

Pro isn’t on sale yet. Leave your email at the top of this page and we’ll tell you when it is.

Good to know

What it doesn’t do

Saral SMTP sends the emails your store already sends. A few things are outside its job:

  • It doesn’t give you an email account. You need one from Google, Microsoft, Zoho, your host or a sending service such as Amazon SES or Brevo.
  • It can’t fix your domain’s DNS for you. The domain check shows what’s missing, and you add the records at your DNS provider.
  • Automatic retries and the weekly summary need OpenCart’s cron job to be running on your server.
  • It needs OpenCart 4.0.2.0 or newer. OpenCart 3 and older aren’t supported.

If your emails still land in spam after setup, the domain check is the best place to start.

Private by design

Saral SMTP sends your emails only to the email service you connect, and sends nothing to Saral Techies. Passwords, API keys and sign-in tokens are encrypted before they are saved. The email log stays in your own database, and password reset emails are logged without their content.

FAQ

Questions about Saral SMTP for OpenCart

Yes. The extension is free, with no ads in your admin, and everything on this page apart from the Pro section is in the free extension. Some email services charge for sending, but that’s between you and them.

From the OpenCart Marketplace, using the button on this page. Download saral_smtp.ocmod.zip and upload it under Extensions, then Installer.

OpenCart 4.0.2.0 and newer, including 4.0.2.x and 4.1.x, on PHP 8.0 or newer. OpenCart 3 isn’t supported.

No. It takes over sending through OpenCart’s own events, so order emails, registrations, password resets, the contact form, Marketing mail and other extensions’ emails all go through your connection without any file edits.

If you already use Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Zoho Mail, connect that account. For a busy store, a sending service such as Amazon SES, Brevo, Postmark or Resend is usually the most reliable. If your host blocks SMTP ports, pick any service that works through an API.

Yes. Turn on “Turn off all email sending”. Emails are still logged so you can check them, but nothing is delivered.

Run the domain deliverability check under Tools. Your domain needs an SPF record that includes your email service, the DKIM records your service gives you and a DMARC record, and your From address should be on that domain.

No. Emails go only to the email service you connect, and alerts only to the channels you turn on. The domain check makes DNS lookups for your domain and nothing else.
