SaralFileManager (“the app”) is a file manager for Android, published by Saral Techies (Hasanpur, Amroha, Uttar Pradesh 244241, India), “we” or “us”. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes.
In short: the app doesn’t collect, upload, sell or share any personal data. It doesn’t have permission to use the internet, and your files stay on your phone unless you share them yourself.
Data we collect
None. The app has no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no crash-reporting tools. It doesn’t request Android’s internet permission, so it can’t send any data to Saral Techies or to anyone else. We have no server that receives data from the app.
Data handled on your phone
| Data | Why | Where it stays |
|---|---|---|
| Your files and folders (names, sizes, dates and contents) | To show, open, copy, move, rename, delete, zip, extract and search them when you ask | On your phone, SD card or USB drive. The app works on files where they are and never uploads them. Photo and video previews are made on the phone and kept only in memory while the app is open. |
| Settings (sort order, list or grid view, hidden files), bookmarked folders, and when the app last asked for a rating or offered an update | To remember your preferences, and not to ask too often | In the app’s private storage on your phone. Bookmarks hold the folder’s location, not its files. |
| Recent files | To show files changed in the last 30 days on the home screen | Worked out from your storage each time; the list isn’t stored separately. |
Permissions
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| All files access (Android 11 and newer) | A file manager has to list and change files and folders in your phone’s shared storage, SD card and USB drives. You turn it on yourself in Android’s settings and can turn it off there at any time. |
| Storage read and write (Android 8 to 10) | The same, on older Android versions. |
The app uses this access only to do what you ask on screen. It doesn’t scan, read or send your files in the background. It doesn’t request internet access, location, contacts, camera, microphone, phone or SMS permissions.
Android backup
Android’s own backup is allowed for the app’s settings and bookmarks, so if backup is turned on in your phone’s settings, Android may copy them to your Google account with your other app data, under Google’s terms, and put them back when you set up a new phone. The app itself doesn’t upload anything, and your files are not part of this backup.
Opening and sharing files
When you choose “Open with” or “Share”, the file goes only to the app you pick, which handles it under its own privacy policy.
Google Play updates and ratings
The app uses Google Play’s in-app update and in-app review features. These work through the Google Play Store app on your phone, not through SaralFileManager, which has no internet access: the Play Store checks whether a new version is available and, now and then, may ask you to rate the app. Google handles this under its own privacy policy, and we only see the ratings and reviews you choose to post on Google Play. Links in the app to our website, this policy and the source code open in your browser.
Sharing and selling
We don’t sell, rent or share any data, because we don’t collect any.
Children
The app is a general tool and is not directed at children under 13. It doesn’t knowingly collect information from anyone.
Security and source code
Settings stay in the app’s private storage, protected by Android’s app sandbox. When you extract a zip, entries that try to write outside the new folder are skipped. The app is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence, so anyone can check what it does: github.com/saraltechies/saralfilemanager.
Deleting your data
Uninstall the app to delete its settings and bookmarks from your phone. App backups stored in your Google account can be managed in your phone’s backup settings or Google account. Uninstalling doesn’t delete your files, which belong to you and stay where they are.
Changes to this policy
If a future version handles data differently, we will update this page and the date at the top, and the Data safety section on Google Play, before that version is released.
